Pedestrian killed and another injured in crash

Car accidents involving pedestrians can be very serious. Florida drivers are responsible for obeying the laws of the road and watching for pedestrians, especially in heavily populated areas. But accidents with pedestrians do happen for various reasons. Sometimes, the driver may be at fault, but in some cases, the pedestrian may have put themselves at risk. A recent one-car accident left one man dead and another injured.

How the accident happened

Two men were crossing a street near a hotel just after midnight. They were struck by a vehicle that was traveling on Florida Highway 98. One of the men died at the scene. The other was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. The driver of the car, a 20-year-old man, was not injured in the accident.

Authorities aren’t sure what caused the accident. Further investigations may reveal if the driver was negligent or if the pedestrians weren’t crossing the road in a safe manner. No charges have been filed at this time. If investigators determine that the driver was at fault, the surviving victim and the family of the deceased man may have the option to file a lawsuit against him for damages, which can help pay for medical bills and other costs related to the accident.

Seek legal advice

When a motor vehicle strikes a pedestrian, the injuries can be severe. In a case like this, where a pedestrian was killed after being struck by a vehicle, the surviving family members may be left with unexpected expenses related to the death of their loved one. Florida residents who’ve been injured in an accident, or those who’ve lost a loved one, can consult a personal injury attorney to see what legal options they have.
