Sidewalks are designed to provide pedestrians with a safe place to walk. Most people assume that they’re safe when they use a public sidewalk, but sadly, that isn’t always the case. On the rare occasion that a motor vehicle runs onto a sidewalk, the results can be fatal. A recent accident has left a Florida community in mourning as two women were hit by a pickup truck when it veered off the roadway onto a sidewalk.

Accident details

This tragic accident happened on a Tuesday evening in downtown Melbourne. The two victims were close friends who had grown up together and were well-known in the community. The women were walking on the sidewalk along Front Street when a pickup truck left the street and struck them both. One of the victims died at the hospital on the day of the accident. The other succumbed to her injuries two days later.

Investigators are not sure what caused the pickup to leave the roadway. No charges have been filed against the driver at this time, but that could change. The families of the victims are left with many questions about what caused the death of their loved ones.

Pursuing a wrongful death lawsuit

Losing a family member unexpectedly in an accident can leave loved ones devastated. Not only do they have to come to terms with the death of their family member, but they are also often left with many expenses associated with the accident.
