Motorcycle riders and their passengers face danger with each ride on Florida’s roadways. Even the safest motorcycle rider can be injured or killed when drivers of larger vehicles aren’t aware of their surroundings. Sadly, motorcyclists are killed each year because of the negligence of drivers who aren’t following the laws and aren’t looking out for smaller vehicles. A recent motorcycle accident in Marion County left two dead and injured the driver of the other vehicle.
A fatal crash
The crash happened in Belleview at around 10 p.m. at the intersection of Southeast 104th Terrace and East State Road 25. A Toyota SUV was stopped at a stop sign before attempting to make a left turn onto SR 25. Three motorcycles were headed east when the Toyota attempted the turn, hitting the lead motorcycle. According to investigators, the driver of the SUV did not sufficiently check to be sure it was clear before making the turn.
The motorcycle rider and passenger were both thrown from the bike and suffered fatal injuries. The female driver of the Toyota was also injured in the crash. If it’s determined that the driver was negligent, she could face charges related to the fatal crash.

Riding a motorcycle comes with risks, especially when other motorists are not cautious when checking for other vehicles in their path. Sadly, many motorcyclists do all the right things to keep themselves safe but are injured or killed due to negligent drivers.
